Elon Musk Rebrands SpaceXAI as SpaceXSI, Because Letters Matter

Reading Time : 2 minutes

Elon Musk has apparently decided that the fastest way to make a chatbot more intelligent is to change the letters after “SpaceX.” SpaceXAI, the company behind Grok, will now become SpaceXSI, according to Musk’s reply on X. Naturally, the announcement arrived with no timeline, no formal corporate statement, and no explanation of whether the website, social-media handles, legal entity, or beloved chatbot will need to learn its new name.

The inspiration, of course, is President Trump’s executive order instructing federal agencies to stop saying “artificial intelligence” and start saying “Super Intelligence,” or “SI.” The order argues that the technology does more than imitate human intelligence, which is a bold claim for systems that still occasionally invent citations, misread calendars, and confidently explain why your printer is haunted.

Musk has embraced the terminology with characteristic restraint. “No more AI,” he wrote, before declaring that SpaceX is now “a super intelligence company.” One can only admire the efficiency: rather than waiting for the technology to become superintelligent, the company has apparently chosen to rename itself into the future. It is branding as prophecy, with a side order of acronym management.

This is also not SpaceX’s first identity crisis. The unit was called xAI before becoming SpaceXAI in July, and SpaceXSI would be its third name this year. Meanwhile, rivals including OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google have not rushed to abandon “AI,” perhaps because they are waiting to see whether “Super Intelligence” becomes a scientific breakthrough, a federal communications rule, or simply the most ambitious rebrand since someone decided “New Coke” needed a sequel.
