Lampposts Become EV Chargers Thanks to Voltpost Innovation

Reading Time : 2 minutes

Voltpost is transforming the way electric vehicle charging is approached by converting existing lampposts into Level 2 EV chargers. This clever adaptation avoids the need for new infrastructure and allows faster, cheaper deployment. Their goal is to fill the charging gap in cities, especially for apartment residents who don’t have access to private garages or driveways.

The company is currently rolling out these curbside chargers in several locations, with Illinois and Michigan leading the way. In Oak Park, Illinois, Voltpost partnered with the local park district and ComEd to launch their first public units. Meanwhile, Southeast Michigan has seen installations at the American Center for Mobility, backed by the state’s Office of Future Mobility & Electrification.

Connecticut is also on board, planning to install around 100 charging ports by late 2026. These systems, which require only a few minutes to install, are modular and scalable. They can be placed not only on curbs but also in parking lots, multi-family housing complexes, and institutional campuses, offering versatility that traditional chargers lack.

Voltpost is pushing forward despite federal EV funding delays, leveraging state partnerships to expand. Their mobile and web apps let users charge without vendor-specific hardware. With plans expanding into San Francisco and other urban centers, Voltpost is betting that repurposing everyday street infrastructure will accelerate EV adoption where it’s most needed.
