Tencent has quietly renamed its flagship AI model brand from “Hunyuan” to HY, a simpler label meant to work better globally while keeping all the core technology intact. The change came as part of a broader launch tied to Tencent HY 2.0, a new generation of its multimodal large models with enhanced reasoning, language, and multimodal capabilities.

The rebrand doesn’t signal a fresh product from scratch — it’s the next chapter of the same suite that spans text, images, video, 3D, and more, now unified under the more concise HY name for easier recognition and positioning.

Under the HY umbrella, the 2.0 models showcase a Mixture-of-Experts architecture with massive context windows and strong performance on complex tasks like reasoning and code generation. These models are being integrated into Tencent’s cloud services and native apps, with APIs opening to developers.

With competition ramping up globally, Tencent is betting that a streamlined, globally friendly brand will help HY stand out against other major generative AI platforms while maintaining its robust technical footing.
