AMD Surges Past 40% CPU Share in Steam’s Gaming Survey

Reading Time : 2 minutes

AMD continues to tighten its grip on the gaming world, reaching an impressive 41% share among Steam users’ CPUs. This marks one of the company’s strongest positions in years, as Intel’s share slips below 60%. The shift reflects a growing appreciation for AMD’s balance of performance, efficiency, and affordability among gaming enthusiasts.

The momentum is largely driven by AMD’s Ryzen lineup, particularly the X3D and 3D V-Cache series, which have proven exceptional in gaming workloads. These chips offer strong value and long-term platform support, two key reasons why many PC builders now favor AMD over Intel. Steam’s gaming community, known for frequent hardware upgrades, has clearly taken notice.

While this data is specific to the Steam hardware survey, it highlights how AMD’s innovation and smart pricing continue to reshape the competitive landscape. Intel still holds the upper hand in the broader consumer and enterprise markets, especially in laptops and pre-built systems, but its dominance is showing cracks where performance truly matters.

AMD’s rise in the gaming sector signals a larger trend: the growing power of user choice and technical awareness. As gamers and creators demand more value per watt, AMD’s climb looks less like a spike and more like the new normal. Intel may need more than incremental updates to reclaim its former glory.
