Qualcomm’s chief executive Cristiano Amon made it clear that Intel’s current chipmaking technology is not an option for the company. In an interview with Bloomberg Tech, Amon explained that Qualcomm demands efficiency and performance that Intel’s processes cannot yet deliver, even though the door remains open if Intel improves in the future.

At present, Qualcomm is maintaining its reliance on TSMC and Samsung, two long-trusted partners that continue to push the boundaries of semiconductor production. Their ability to meet Qualcomm’s stringent requirements keeps them ahead of Intel, which is still catching up in the foundry race despite ambitious plans.

Amon stressed that Qualcomm does not dismiss Intel entirely. The company wants Intel to become a viable partner, as greater diversification in suppliers would be beneficial for the industry. However, Qualcomm cannot risk compromising on chip performance, especially with its Snapdragon platforms playing a central role in laptops and mobile devices.

Intel’s manufacturing struggles underline the intense competition in semiconductor production, where nanometers and efficiency gains determine leadership. For Qualcomm, betting on proven partners ensures it remains competitive in delivering cutting-edge chips, while Intel faces pressure to deliver results that will one day put it back in consideration as a major supplier.
