These eggs were created by the House of Faberg\u00e9, a jewelry firm founded in St. Petersburg by Gustav Faberg\u00e9 in the mid-19th century. The egg was made of gold, enameled in white, and contained a surprise: a miniature golden hen, which in turn concealed a diamond and ruby miniature replica of the Imperial Crown. This egg was so well-received that the Tsar commissioned Faberg\u00e9 to make a new egg every Easter.
